Four full-time instructors and two teaching assistants for each cohort of 24, so there are never more than eight students per teacher in a lab.
Who teaches the cohort.

Dana Okafor
Lead instructor, servers and SQL
- Shipping code
- 11 years
- Before Codeyard
- Staff engineer at a freight logistics software company; ran its on-call rotation for four years.
Dana wrote the Week 9 to 11 unit and still reviews every assessment 3 by hand. Ask her about indexes and she will draw one.

Priya Raman
Instructor, React and TypeScript
- Shipping code
- 8 years
- Before Codeyard
- Front-end lead at a healthcare scheduling company, where she rebuilt the booking flow used by 300 clinics.
Priya teaches weeks 5 to 8 and runs the Friday weekly checks. Her rule: every component ships with the test that proves it.

Marcus Feld
Instructor, JavaScript and testing
- Shipping code
- 6 years
- Before Codeyard
- Backend engineer at a payments company. He took an evening JavaScript class himself in 2017.
Marcus teaches weeks 1 to 4 and leads afternoon code review. He has reviewed about 4,000 student pull requests.

Lena Sorensen
Career coach
- Shipping code
- 9 years
- Before Codeyard
- Technical recruiter for software teams at three companies before she joined Codeyard.
Lena runs weeks 15 and 16 and the 180 days after, and answers the admissions inbox on Wednesdays.
How we hireteachers.
Teaching is a salaried job here, not a side gig paid per student. Nobody earns more when a cohort fills.
Meet them at an info sessionFive years shipping
At least five years writing production code on a team, with code review both ways.
production, review, on-call
A trial lesson
Every candidate teaches a real 45-minute lesson to a live cohort, who give written feedback.
clarity, pace, patience
One unit at a time
No instructor teaches more than one unit at once, so office hours stay open.
focus, office hours, review
Back to work yearly
Instructors spend two weeks a year on an open-source or client codebase.
current tools, real code
8 to 1
students per teacher in every lab, counting the two teaching assistants. Lectures are the whole cohort; everything else is smaller.
Teaching assistants.
Each cohort has two, hired from earlier cohorts after at least two years working as engineers. They run the help queue from 9 AM to 9 PM Eastern, pair with anyone who falls behind, and write the first review on every pull request.
Their jobs are listed separately in the outcomes report and never counted as placements.
