What late invoices cost you a year

On an average day, $100,800 of your money is sitting in clients' accounts.

$9,072 in the cost of carrying that cash at 9%, plus $10,800 of your own time chasing it.

An illustration with your numbers, not a promise. Each bar is the running total by the end of that month.

Reminders you'd write yourself

Pick the voice.

Warm for the client you've had for six years, plain for most, firm for the one who always pays on day 60.

Choose the days.

Days after the due date. Most studios use two reminders; some add a third before a phone call.

Let them pay from the email.

A button, not an account number in a PDF. Bank transfer costs you less; cards are faster for small clients.

Sign it as you.

Reminders come from a person at your studio, by name, from your own address.

Stop when they pay.

The moment money lands, reminders stop. Send a thank-you, or don't.

Old notched wooden tally sticks laid side by side on linen

Named for the oldest invoice

For centuries a debt was a hazel stick, notched with the amount and split lengthwise. The lender kept one half, the borrower the other, and when it was settled the two halves had to match. Tallybird keeps the same promise: one record that you and your client both see, identical on both sides.

Tally sticks were used to record debts in England from the 1100s until 1826.
